説明

Night Shift by Stephen King is a gripping collection of short stories that showcases his early mastery of horror and suspense. Published in 1978, this anthology contains 20 tales that range from chilling to downright unsettling, each demonstrating King’s knack for tapping into primal fears and crafting vivid, memorable characters. Stories like “Jerusalem’s Lot,” a Lovecraftian prelude to Salem’s Lot, and “The Boogeyman,” a haunting exploration of parental dread, highlight his ability to blend psychological terror with supernatural elements. Other standouts, such as “Graveyard Shift” and “I Am the Doorway,” deliver visceral, grotesque imagery that lingers long after reading. The collection’s variety—spanning vampires, cosmic horror, and everyday evils—keeps you hooked, with King’s conversational style making even the most outlandish premises feel unnervingly real. Perfect for horror fans, Night Shift is a 5/5 star showcase of King’s raw talent and versatility, cementing his place as a genre titan.

🔸2.9% [Foreword] "And the great appeal of horror fiction through the ages is that it serves as a rehearsal for our own deaths."

I really enjoyed this book. It was my first Stephen king. I was completely drawn in from the beginning and I loved all the characters. However, there was a bit in the middle where it was floating around and didn't seem to know where to go which tallyed up with the fact king went through writers block. And I didn't really like the ending if I'm honest... But overall I still really enjoyed it.
