One of my all time favourite books and as someone who doesn't normally like audio books I am very pleased to say Kate Reading does a great job as narrator
After not liking Twilight that much,I have always been in doubt about reading The Host .However, I downloaded the audiobook on a whim, and started listening to it.I struggled through first chapters, but to my surprise I loved the rest of the book. I am so happy that I finally gave this a chance. Because unlike Bella, Wanda is so sweet and adorable.
I read this a few years ago and gave it four stars. Four stars? How did that happen? I tried reading it again and got 60 pages into it before giving up. If I hadn't read it already I would have continued, but since I already knew the story I didn't feel like putting up with it. How was I not bored to death of this before? There were a few times I thought, "Just ten more pages. Ten more. I can do that, right?" This would be followed by me shutting the book after four more pages. The storyline is decent. Nothing unique, but still enjoyable. And Wanda and Ian get really cute towards the end. But is it worth it? Hecks no! Sure, it's better than Twilight, but then, what isn't? (A little book called [b:Once in a Full Moon|8428056|Once in a Full Moon (Full Moon, #1)|Ellen Schreiber|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327895088s/8428056.jpg|13291257], that what.)Honestly, most of the book is the characters wandering around. Which I guess makes sense, since the main character is called Wanderer. However, this does not make for an interesting read. I don't want to wait 60 pages for something good to happen. It's not worth it. Not even a little. The movie, sure. That was much more fast paced and exciting. It wasn't a long, drawn out 600 pages. But no one should waste their time on this book.
I enjoyed it after I got a third of the way through. The beginning felt very slow, but I really want to watch the movie so I powered through it. I ended up really liking Ian and Wanda together (romantic at heart, main reason why I read books). Idk why Wanda had to be put into a 16 year olds body lol and she lied about her age. Why couldn’t she have been 18? lol. So innocent and pure, my butt. Wanda is thousands of years old. I’m glad she found her soulmate though.
“I love you,” I whispered.“Don't say that like you're saying goodbye.” What is it about? The world is invaded by a species that inhabits the human body but there are a few humans left fighting against these alien things. Melanie is on the run with her little brother and boyfriend until one night she gets captured by the enemies. The soul Wanda is put into Melanies body and is completely shocked to find out that there's still someone in there. At first Wanda is unsure what to believe, her people or Melanie, who shows her old memories and makes her fall in love with the people she had in her old life. Together they run away to find their little brother. But the seeker won't let them go that easy. She will search for them and so Melanie and Wanda put the lifes of everyone they love in danger. My opinion:„The host“ was one of the first handful of books that I've read and I completely fell in love with it. I remember starting to read the book for the first time and giving up around 150 pages because it was just so boring and I just coulnd't bring myself to continue. I put the book on hold for a month until I continued reading and never stopped until the end.Stephenie Meyer createt such a complex concept of a character with Melanie/Wanda. It was amazing to see how Wanda struggeled with Melanie inside her and how Melanie desperarely tried to break through until they became friends and worked together. The whole characters in this book just fit perfectly. It all was written so realistically, the reactions of the characters on finding out Melanie isn't human anymore, the world, the place they live in. It's just brilliant. I especially fell in love with one character in particular and that is Ian.He is just so understanding and loving it nearly broke my heart. I strongly advise anyone who hasn't read this book to do so and not be scared of it because they didn't like the Twilight series. This book is completely different and utterly beautiful. “It's not the face, but the expressions on it. It's not the voice, but what you say. It's not how you look in that body, but the thing you do with it. You are beautiful.”
I enjoyed this book, but I think it made a better film.some bits dragged - but the overall story intrigued me and I think I may re-read it again - when I am very bored.since I read this a long time ago this review is short. If you liked Twilight (and yes I did) then you will like this one although there are no sparkly vampires in sight :)
