説明

Samantha thought the night would be just another mundane evening, filled with laughter and friendly faces at the party. However, a sudden sense of unease washed over her as she stepped into the bustling street, a stark contrast to the warmth behind her. With each hurried step, the noise of the city faded, replaced by an unsettling feeling that something was terribly wrong. Little did she know, her night was about to take a dramatic turn that would change everything.

As the clock ticked on, Samantha soon finds herself entangled in a web of deception and lies that reach far beyond her understanding. What began as a simple night out spirals into a haunting journey of secrets and betrayal. Surrounded by familiar faces that now feel like strangers, she must navigate her way through a chilling investigation that forces her to confront her own past. The truth waits just beyond her grasp, and the stakes are higher than she ever imagined.

3.5 stars rounded up. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed this book a lot more than my previous mystery read, even the lead character who I always have a hard time with. I appreciated that Gina seemed to be self-aware of her issues, as did her supervisor and that she seemed to follow the rules he laid down when things got personal. She has an interesting and sad past, and I am intrigued by the relationship she has with her daughter. She also seems like one of the more realistic detectives I've read, as she does eat and sleep (albeit just a little but it's mentioned, unlike some other books I've read). While I wasn't thoroughly invested in the relationship with her and her team, I could see that they worked well together and did solid police work. I also appreciated the mentions of how long forensics, warrants took etc. For the mystery itself, it was solid and though I predicted the murderer about halfway, there were some twists that I enjoyed. I also enjoyed how the ending wrapped up, leaving room for more books and possible relationship development. Overall, a good, quick read with solid characters and a solid story,
