리뷰

Mariam is only fifteen when she is sent to Kabul to marry Rasheed. Nearly two decades later, a friendship grows between Mariam and a local teenager, Laila, as strong as the ties between mother and daughter. When the Taliban take over, life becomes a desperate struggle against starvation, brutality and fear. Yet love can move a person to act in unexpected ways, and lead them to overcome the most daunting obstacles with a startling heroism.

The most refreshing and heartbreaking book I've read this year. Fixtion story that recount a monstrous tragedy. Khaled Hosseini is a wonderful author.

Although I didn't like the beginning as much, I loved, loved this book. I found the Kite Runner to be a good story with likable enough characters, but I connected to this book more.

Kalid Hussaini can only write in black and white. So I am pausing this one in favor of books that deserve to be read. I was able to predict everything about the character's behavior, and it's ridiculous. This book wasn't written for us, I can see it's aimed at Westerners. Thinking of that and linking the predictable character he has.. It was made to feed into the racial stereotypes for some, was it not?You can barely see that in The Kite Runner, but it is blatantly obvious in TSS

I finished A Thousand Splendid Suns and I really liked it. It’s the kind of story that needed to be told. Yeah, it’s fiction, but it reflects the reality of so many people who’ve gone through this kind of suffering. That part hits hard. The writing is super simple—not fancy at all—but honestly, it works. The story itself is heavy, so you don’t really need beautiful prose or complex metaphors. It does what it needs to do.It’s not a perfect book though. I did feel like it was a bit too long in some parts, and I just couldn’t get into the political parts of the story. I know it’s important to the bigger picture, but it just didn’t do much for me.The ending was good, it made sense, but something about it didn’t hit as hard as I thought it would. Still, this is a solid book. Emotional, raw, and very real in its own way.

Great book. Very sad. Tackles some more serious themes. Deals with abuse, suicide, war, murder, abortion, miscarriages, and other possibly triggering subjects. Beautiful writing style. If ypu like the kite runner you will like this.

This book provides a beautiful outlook into the various mentalities that prevails the Muslim cultures around the world, and how education can broaden one's horizons to change the beliefs of people around you. This book is also able to show you the power of love, forgiveness and hope through different eyes like never before. It is undoubtedly Hosseini's best work, at least IMHO.
