Soooo slow. Draaaagged and draaaagged… which would have been fine if it led up to something great. It doesn’t. This book isn’t BAD- I did at least finish it, despite considering DNF’ing it MULTIPLE times- but it’s not really good either. I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to just hurry up and finish a book more. Charlie is a 17 year old boy who befriends a grouchy old man and his dog. After about 250ish pages of that story, Charlie finds himself in a cursed fairy tale land under the earth…. NOT the Disney kind, as stated many times in the book. The rest of the story is about Charlie’s journey through the land (while meeting an interesting cast of character along the way) and his role in helping “break the curse” and protecting the secret of that world from ours. Sounds like an interesting premise, but didn’t quite manage to hit the mark for me.
Loved the beginning slice of life coming of age story set in our world but I found the fantastical world a bit clunky.
