Even Vampires Get the Blues

The Barnes & Noble Review
Can a vampire without a soul find happiness with a half elf who is also a diviner? Yes, if Katie MacAlister, author of books like Sex, Lies, and Vampires, is in charge.

Paen Alasdair Scott (don't call him a prince of the night -- he prefers the term Moravian) is damned by an ancient curse so that only a woman -- a beloved -- can redeem his soul. That's bad enough, but then a demon lord threatens his mother with the loss of a soul, too, unless Paen recovers a certain statue. He hires diviner Samatha (Sam) Cosse to help him find the object, and the fun begins. There's sex, and plenty of it; there's shooting, and smart-mouth dialogue, and many denizens of the Otherworld. As a Guardian quips mid-book in a tossaway line, "A bird statue that everyone seems to want, a private investigator named Sam, a partner who was shot -- does that ring any bells with you?" Though MacAlister writes in a wide range of fictional subgenres, readers know she will always make it fun. Ginger Curwen
