설명

The basis of the present carefully edited Norton Critical Edition of Hamlet is the second quarto (1604-5). the editor has also drawn, when necessary, upon the folio, recording all the departures from the quarto in his textual notes. The text of the play is helpfully annotated.

An important section entitled "Intellectual "Backgrounds" provides materials for studying the play in the context of the moral and intellectual assumptions and attitudes current at the time. The contemporary thinkers whose work is represented here are Peter de la Primaudaye, Timothy Bright, Lewes Lavater, G. Gifford, Michel de Montaigne, and Hieronymous Cardanus.

The pre-Shakesperean accounts of the Hamlet story are represented by substantial extracts from the Historia Danica of Saxo Gramaticus and the Histories Tragiques of Belleforest.

From the vast number of critical commentaries on this play, the editor has culled the most significant ompions and attitudes. The critics are John Dennis, Samuel Johnson, William Richardson, Henry Mackenzie, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Augustus William Schlegel, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, William Hazlitt, A. C. Bradley, T. S. Eliot, Elmer Edgar Stoll, G. Wilson Knight, John Dover Wilson, Harley Granville-Barker, Theodor Spencer, C. S. Lewis, Ernest Jones, Harry Levlin, G. B. Harrison, H.D.F. Kitto, and Rebecca West.

I was brought up reading Shakespeare from an early age as my late father was an English teacher and wanted me to be ‘well read’ and Macbeth was one of my favourites as he would sometimes read the parts with me in his Scottish accent. So when I saw that there were Manga versions of the Shakespeare plays I was curious as to how something that’s traditionally told on the stage would come across in this medium.

I loved it.

The artwork is so well done, and the language of William Shakespeare is woven well into the storytelling, I think these books would be perfect for students who were struggling with the more traditional methods of telling the tale of an overly ambitious laird who murders his way onto the Scottish crown. The emotions the characters experience are so vivid thanks to the style of the artwork and helped draw you into this centuries old tale.

These books should be available in every school library and are a fantastic way of telling stories that even after all these years still draw in so many readers or attendees of the plays in. Whether you’re new to the tales or not - I think these are a great read for any age.

The ending was stupid.

They are so long-winded my god. Try and place a word in I dare you. Not my favourite Shakespeare.
