설명

In a realm steeped in treachery and moral decay, the story unfolds around Prince Hamlet, who grapples with the haunting specter of his father's ghost. The ghost reveals a chilling truth: he was murdered by Claudius, Hamlet's own uncle, who has since ascended to the throne of Denmark and married Hamlet’s mother, Gertrude. This revelation sparks a tumultuous journey of revenge, reflection, and existential musings that plague the young prince.

As Hamlet navigates the treacherous court filled with spies and betrayals, he becomes increasingly consumed by doubt and melancholy. His quest is not merely to avenge his father’s death but also to confront profound questions about life, death, and the morality of vengeance. The dichotomy of action versus inaction becomes a central theme as he vacillates between resolve and paralysis, leading to tragic consequences.

The interplay of madness—feigned or real—adds layers of complexity to Hamlet's character and his relationships. Ophelia, torn between loyalty to her father and her love for Hamlet, is swept up in the chaos, reflecting the broader themes of innocence lost and the impact of a corrupt society. The dynamics within the royal family unravel as Hamlet’s choices initiate a cascade of disaster that ensnares everyone in its grip.

Ultimately, the tale culminates in a dramatic conclusion, showcasing the destructive power of ambition and revenge. The haunting beauty of Shakespeare's language intertwines with the unraveling human experience, making it a timeless exploration of the human condition, fraught with emotional turmoil, moral dilemmas, and the inescapable nature of fate.

Hamlet may very well be regarded as one of the greatest tragedies ever written. However I found it rather dull, certainly in Act I and Act II. It does pick up from Act III onwards and at that point I began to enjoy reading it.

It, being my first time reading the Play, was quite difficult to follow but I'm sure subsequent rereads will open up the language to me and I may then see fit to increase my rating.

The ending was stupid.

They are so long-winded my god. Try and place a word in I dare you. Not my favourite Shakespeare.
