설명

In a gripping tale that intertwines forensic science with a deep mystery, Scarpetta finds herself drawn into a chilling investigation. A body lies on her autopsy table, and as she meticulously examines the clues, it becomes clear that this is no ordinary case. The victim, shrouded in ambiguity, seems to be reaching out from beyond the grave, begging for answers that only Scarpetta can uncover.

As she delves deeper into the circumstances surrounding the death, Scarpetta grapples with a series of perplexing clues that hint at a larger, more sinister plot. Her expertise is tested as she must navigate through layers of deception and uncover the identity of the mysterious victim. With each revelation, the stakes rise, forcing her to confront her own fears and past experiences.

The urgency of the investigation intensifies when it becomes apparent that the victim’s secrets are entangled with a network of powerful figures willing to protect their interests at all costs. Scarpetta’s relentless pursuit of truth draws her into a dangerous game, where each decision could have dire consequences.

In a world where identity is a fragile construct, Scarpetta's determination to reveal the truth not only serves justice for the deceased but also forces her to face her own demons. This engrossing narrative pushes the boundaries of forensic science and explores the complex interplay between life and death, making it a must-read for those captivated by the intricacies of human existence.

I always feel like I'm among old friends when I step into a Scarpetta book. I first picked one up over 18 years ago. The methods and practices have evolved over time and there's a lot more technology being used for both the good and bad. I still think the earlier work was some of my favourites but I do enjoy reading the more recent ones too. This one sees a recurring enemy of the gang back on the scene, one that like a cat, seems to have nine lives. The Scarpetta series will continue to be a instant buy for me and is one I have re-read a number of times.TW - I will warn that there is details of child abuse in this book.
