I'm so in between on this book. I wouldn't read it again, but there aren't too many books that I would. I'm not sure if I would recommend this book to anyone else just because there were only a few parts that I really loved. At times I couldn't put the book down because I fell in love with Emma. However, other times I didn't want to continue reading because of the douche bag that Dexter was. I really loved the technique the book took - writing a full story from just one day a year. However, it seemed as if the author really just liked writing introductions, not so much endings. Speaking of which, the ending was a tad disappointing. I did find that it was refreshing that the story was pretty real, though it dragged in some places.
I only read this once, when I was in high school, and that was almost two decades ago. But it remained my favorite romance novel until the day I watched the tv show, fell in love with the show's version of Em and Dex, and then decided to reread this just for fun. Anyway, there's really no point to this anecdote; I just wanted to get it out and let it be known.
Movie Em and Dex were very attractive people but the movie itself was pretty forgettable (i might have to watch it again) and Anne Hathaway's british accent was just bad. Meanwhile tv show Em and Dex were very likable. The storyline and writing was amazing that I wish it was longer, but I didn't like that they changed a few storylines.
Anyway, novel Em and Dex were very flawed, but thankfully they had character developments towards the end which made the ending all the more painful, but boy were they very miserable about themselves in their younger years. I just wished we could read more of their lives together than when they were apart.
Slow to draw me in for first 1/3 but then found I needed to keep reading.
