모두 보기2 starsAs though, knowing that everything is possible, suddenly nothing is necessary.I don't know.... maybe it was the writing style, maybe because I love the show a lot and I watched the show before I read the book. This book wasn't amazing. It was definitely well-written, but there were some parts of the book which were extremely questionable and I was glad that the show cut those out (for example the sex scene after Claire kills the first time, I'm sorry but no.) . Also there was one chapter which had 50+ pages and it was draining and quite boring. There's a fine line between detail and way too much detail, and this had way too much detail, to the point where it became boring and I didn't care about it. In the beginning we get 100-200 pages of introduction which I found was so unnecessary, the pacing was so slow. Then there was Jamie, I love show Jamie so much, but book Jamie.... yeah I'm sorry he annoyed me. I can't quite put my finger on why he annoyed me, but he just did. I liked Claire, but like Jamie, I like her better in the show. The show stuck with the storyline of the book, but to be completely honest, the show 100% beats the book for me. I will read the next book and Voyager just to catch up with the show, but overall it was just meh.
A lot of times books disappoint. The hype is extreme. But sometimes in this case IT IS Justified. Outlander is that good. Bear in mind: I have never see the series on Starz/Netflix etc. so I have only my imagination. The plot: Claire Randall goes back in time and that is all you get. No spoilers. Read the 864 pages, have fun, and bear in mind one thing: this is the 1st book. How hard do I have to sell this to you Goodreads readers? BTW I have been to Culloden Moor visitors centre and Loch Ness (here endth Scottish tourism promotion).
