Wheat Belly came about as a result of Dr. Davis’ research into why people have heart attacks. As a cardiologist, he knew the procedures for treating a heart attack - but what about preventing one from occurring in the first place?
In an interview with Lifetime Weight Loss, Dr. Davis describes the research that led to the discovery of the effects of wheat on Americans’ health. By noting that his heart patients often also had diabetes, he looked into aspects common in treating both diseases and discovered that wheat, by raising blood sugar quickly, also triggered the formation of small LDL particles - a symptom indicating heart disease. It only made sense to take wheat out of patients’ diets.
When they eliminated wheat from their diet, astonishing cures began to happen. Not only were their heart conditions and diabetes improved, but the symptoms of other conditions disappeared as well. Dr. Davis came to the conclusion that all the prime suspects - fat, sugar, and our sedentary lifestyles - were only red herrings in the mystery that was unfolding. These were not the real culprits when it came to weight gain, heart attacks, diabetes, and a host of other conditions - wheat was!

The role of zonulin in celiac disease and diabetes was discovered in 2000 and is discussed in a press release from the University of Maryland Mecical Center, which states that, “Celiac disease can be easily treated by avoiding foods with gluten.”

Diabetes is the fastest growing disease in America.
Diabetes is defined as “a group of diseases that affect how your body uses blood glucose, commonly called blood sugar.” The disease is governed by insulin, a hormone produced in the pancreas.
Originally, diabetes was considered just one disease. Before the Canadian physician Sir Frederick Banting earned the Nobel Prize in 1923 for the discovery of insulin, diabetics whose bodies could not produce insulin simply died from ketoacidosis, since the lack of insulin prevented glucose from entering their cells. Now we know diabetes is a progressive disease and diabetics are generally labeled as Type I and Type II...
