さゆり下 [Sayuri: ge]

Why would I never forget this book. My sister gave it to me. I was 18 and I was still mainly reading YA so some historical novel about geisha in Japan did not interest me that much. I didn't even know what a geisha was. And maybe this book is not the best introduction to Japanese geisha....However, I sat down and I thought well. I'll just read a couple of paragraphs to see how it is. After all it was a gift. I owed it to her to try. I don't think I got up from that sofa for the rest of the day. You know when you just start reading and the world just disappears? And when you look up again you don't even know where you are? 

It was heartbreaking and brilliant, and the characters were intense. The movie did not do it justice.

good book with very nice descriptive language, however not an entirely accurate representation of geisha and their ways, the author violated the privacy of a geisha who trusted him to keep her identity a secret and he inaccurately wrote about certain traditions
