설명

Marcus Caster-Rupp leads a double life. While millions tune in weekly to watch him portray Aeneas on the hit television series, few are aware of the complexities hidden behind his on-screen persona. As a talented actor in a demanding industry, Marcus struggles with the pressures of fame and the desire to remain true to himself amid the glaring spotlight. The audience sees the heroic qualities of his character, but they are oblivious to the vulnerabilities and insecurities that haunt him in private.

When Marcus’s long-held secrets begin to unravel, he finds himself at a crossroads. Confronted by his own fears and the uncontrollable chaos of public scrutiny, he must decide whether to embrace his authentic self or adhere to the expectations of society. The journey explores themes of love, acceptance, and identity, revealing the intricate balance that exists between one's screen image and the person behind it, as well as the transformative power of vulnerability.

2 starsThank you to HarperCollins and Edelweiss for this ARC, in exchange for a honest review.Romance / Contemporary romance novels aren't really my cup of tea, yet I quite enjoyed Spoiler Alert. I liked the concept of the book because I relate to being in fandoms and the whole idea of cons (the fanfiction part not so much). I liked the plus-size representation as well. However, I found the pacing really weird and a bit too fast. I didn't really relate to the characters either. To be completely honest, I did skim read the last chapters because I was finding myself knowing exactly what would happen. The miscommunications did annoy me a bit and the conficts that occurred.

The representation is good but I could not connect with the characters or their romance and the fanfic aspect was too much for me

January 2nd 2026

Not the strongest romance I've ever read, but it's light and fluffy and fun enough. The obvious parallels with the fandom rage at Game of Thrones (especially the issues surrounding the characterization of Nikolah Coster-Waldau's Jaime Lannister) are a bit amusing, especially as someone who stopped watching GoT before season 4. I like Marcus and April's relationship, but I'm not exactly sold on how they got together. It's a bit too rushed, and while I like the little insights on their online interactions, some of the fanfiction and script tidbits felt unnecessary (I completely skipped those). I'm not opposed to modern romances, I just don't always want reminders of the modern era in my escapism. Still cute.
