Denise Vitola has created a nightmarish vision of the near future, an earth with a minimum of peace, beauty and natural resources--and a maximum of government corruption, control and greed. Now Vitola returns to that gritty, desperate world. The world of Marshal Ty Merrick.
District Marshal Ty Merrick and her partner, Andy LaRue, leave the mean streets of District One behind to board the Cutter Delora. They are traveling the Black River--a river that runs straight through a dark and dangerous penal colony. Things seem quiet until a crewman is brutally murdered. Who--or what--cut the throat and took the ears of the sailor? That's what Merrick must find out before the red sun rises in the sky again--and something inhuman rises out of the river's toxic waters.
