Edmund, a fellow scholar and swordsman comes to his aid, and a battle ensues. Meanwhile Phil the Ogre and Lorelei the Dark Elf work out their differences. Later a trio of powerful mages arrive and it is up to Megan, Amy and the succubus Kendra to stop the forces of good from taking back the kingdom from "The Dark Queen of Demons" otherwise known as Megan.
Excerpt:
“Ogre!” the dark elf shouted imperiously.
Phil cocked an eyebrow up from the book he was reading.
“I have a name.”
“What?”
“I have a name and expect you to use it. I don’t just go around screaming slag when I want your attention.”
Lorelei’s lip quirked in amusement.
“What is it?”
“Huh” the ogre asked intelligently.
“Your name? What is it?”
“…Phil” the ogre said momentarily stunned at her concession.
“Fine…Phil. I’m pissed and wish to work it out.”
“Oh you mean you want to spar?”
“Sure” Lorelei agreed easily.
“Alright, but ground rules, no damage I can’t heal in less than a week.”
Lorelei pouted.
“I’m not agreeing to any fight that leaves me crippled just because you’re in a bad mood.”
“Fine. So suspicious. What did a dark elf ever do to you?”
“What makes you think a dark elf did something to me.”
“Or your family. Because you’re the only one in this benighted kingdom who is properly scared of me.”
“I’m not scared of you” Phil said heatedly.
Lorelei gave him a very dry look.
“I’m just cautious of you.”
She stepped forward in a blur of speed and shouted “Boo!”
The ogre jumped back a step.
“Okay, maybe a little scared of you” he conceded.
“Too scared to fight me?”
“Not once you agree to my condition.”
“Fine.”
“Weapons?”
“No. They’d just get in the way” she said and leapt forward in a kick, which he deflected with his forearm. She used the momentum of his block to flip back in a somersault and land gracefully, how else, on her feet, almost exactly where she’s started her attack.
“Impressive” he said.
“An ogre who bothers to deflect an attack. I’m impressed as well.”
“Ogres aren’t stupid” Phil said defensively.
“Never said they were.”
“It’s just you know, being bigger and stronger than most everyone, not much call for subtlety.”
“But what happens if you like subtlety.”
“He wouldn’t be real happy I guess. Might leave home at the first opportunity.”
Lorelei smiled and kicked at the ogre’s knee three times in quick succession. Phil lifted his leg and caught the kicks on his shin instead. Which actually hurt.
