모두 보기Holy Moly!! I absolutely loved that this book only spans a single day! I can't believe the story Colbert was able to tell in the span of 24 hours. If I wasn't already obsessed with her work, I am even more now. This book tells the story of Marva and Duke. Marva has been working hard to make sure that everyone votes and understands the importance of their vote. Duke and his family believe that voting is extremely important after what happened to Duke's older brother. The two meet at the beginning of the story when Marva finishes voting but the overhears Duke being told he isn't registered at that location. Marva makes it her mission to get him to the right location so he can do his civic duty. Was ensues is a day full of obstacles and sidetracks and tangents, along with a day where two people get to know not only each other but their own selves more than before. You will not want to put this one down! The chapters alternate between perspectives so while the story continues you are seeing each new event through different eyes. Questions you want answered may not happen until that character's voice comes back which makes you want to continue chapter after chapter. Although so much happens in this story and some of it sounds kind of crazy, I never felt like this book was cheesy. And Colbert finds a brilliant way to bring up other important issues in our world today: abortion, racism, police brutality and bias, discrimination (age, race). And yet everything discussed feel relatable to any age since those telling the story have just turned 18. I would definitely recommend this book because of how wonderfully Colbert weaves such important issues and topics into a light hearted, fun-loving story!
