Transference

Mindwalkers are a myth. Yet on twelve planets in the Sigma Sector, laws have been passed against mindwalking. In the Church of Intranscendental Transference, priests study the doctrines given to them by the Fleet – yet no one has met the Fleet. No one knows who they are, only that they are alien. The Fleet agents aren’t saying.

Victor Gomenzi knows. Gomenzi is a mindwalker.
On the run from Sigma Sector agents, Gomenzi is hiding out on Nigel, a tenth rate industrial colony world culturally disconnected from Sigma. He works as a file clerk on Nigel’s space station, a cover for his real job: a spy for the Nigellian government. Using the standard procedure, a high addictive drug called Total and his own mesmerism techniques, Gomenzi extracts data for Vice President Grote.

He only mindwalks a little.

Too little.

He can’t experience his own life. He can only live through the experiences of others and to reach those experiences, he has to get inside their minds. He has to mindwalk to live...but if he starts mindwalking again, people will start dying.
