After seeing We were liars the series had came out I knew I had to go back and re read the book, after god knows how many years, in preparation for it. I was immediately taken back to how i felt the first time with all the suspense, turmoil & heat both literally due to being set in the summer and romantically between characters. I knew right away that I needed to know more. From a family so seamlessly perfect to the outside world but yet so dysfunctional that on the island their secrets were eating away at each other. They couldn't hide their truths when forced to live their realities together. The family went to great lengths to protect their reputation and to stop secrets coming out but how far back do those secrets go. Family of liars was the perfect follow up. Being told from the perspective of the mum of one of the original liars was a great touch. The writing wasnt as smooth as the first book but I have a feeling this may have been intentional once you learn more about the main character. The tie in to the end of the previous book was nicely done and also the 3 sister stories throughout the first book seem to show their why in this which I also enjoyed. A great read so many emotions!! 👏

Lockhart completely pulled me into the Sinclair family’s secrets once again 😭🌊This book felt haunting, emotional, beautiful, and tragic all at the same time.Knowing how this family hides the truth while slowly unraveling made every chapter feel heavier and more heartbreaking.The atmosphere was EVERYTHING — the summer setting, the tension between family members, the lies hidden beneath perfection… it all felt so unsettling in the best way possible.And the ending??Yeah… I just sat there staring at the wall after finishing because I was NOT okay 😭E. Lockhart really knows how to write stories that feel soft and poetic while quietly destroying your heart.This book made me emotional, shocked, frustrated, and completely invested in every secret being uncovered.⭐ Rating: 5/5💭 Mood: emotional • shocked • heartbroken • obsessed📖 Another devastatingly beautiful story from the Sinclair family 🌊
I was really hoping for more secrets.... the name kinda pushed me to feel that way. I don't hate it but i dont love it either like book 1.
