However, the narrative hints at a deeper struggle; Miyo possesses a Gift that manifests through haunting nightmares, draining her vitality day by day. As she juggles her lessons and the toll of sleepless nights, her health begins to deteriorate, all while Kiyoka is preoccupied with the demands of his work, exacerbated by the machinations of a certain political figure. This precarious situation ultimately culminates in a plot device that I find particularly frustrating: a misunderstanding that threatens to unravel their relationship.➵“She wanted family. She wanted to become family. But in spite of her desire, the person with the worst understanding of what family really meant was Miyo herself. Taking everything on her shoulders and without saying what needed to be said, she had wasted the opportunities that Hazuki and Kiyoka provided her to grow closer and share her burdens with them.Bonds weren’t formed by one-sided approaches, but by two people both trying to grow closer to each other.” Despite my reservations about the narrative’s reliance on misunderstandings, I appreciate the nuanced portrayal of Miyo’s character. Her journey through years of trauma is depicted with a commendable realism, as she navigates her healing process at her own pace. This aspect of the story resonates deeply, showcasing her growth even amidst the turmoil. While I acknowledge that such misunderstandings are often employed to facilitate character development, it does not diminish my aversion to them. Nevertheless, once we move past this tumultuous phase, the story transforms into a captivating experience. Miyo’s awakening of her Gift marks a turning point, allowing her to assist Kiyoka in meaningful ways.
