3.5 starsA lot of reviews mention how unlikeable the main character, Chizu, is, but I think that’s kind of the point. Being young, scared, and unsure of your path often looks like this...messy, passive, and withdrawn. Especially nowadays, when the pressure to have it all figured out is so intense, Chizu feels like a realistic portrayal of someone caught between stages. We can’t really blame her for being who she is; life will shape her in time.Ginko, on the other hand, is gentle and quietly wise. She doesn’t try to impose her own views on Chizu, even though you can tell she has a broader perspective. She understands that advice only goes so far, some things you just have to live through. That sense of generational understanding was one of my favourite parts.Overall, this book felt like a chilled, quiet trip through the turbulence of early adulthood, the loneliness, the stillness, the unspoken shifts, and the time ticking for all of us.
