In the close knit community of Hayslope, in 1799, a young carpenter named Adam Bede falls in love with a beautiful damsel named Hetty Sorrel. As much as he tries to woo her, however, Hetty falls in love with Captain Arther Donnithorn. Young Adam Bede works feverously to win Hetty’s heart, but her heat belongs to Captain Donnithorne. When Captain Donnithorne chooses to leave the town of Hayslope to re-join his militia, a disheartened Hetty agrees to marry Adam Bede. However, before they marry, Hetty discovers that she is carrying a secret that could change her fate. In desperation, Hetty leaves Hayslope in search of Captain Donnithorne. During her search, her secret comes to light. She tries to hide and cover it up, but alas, her secret is found out and she soon finds her life hanging in the balance. Would Adam come to her rescue or will Hetty be left to deal with the hand fate has dealt her?
