Beschrijving

When Molly’s first husband, Julian, is washed away to sea, Molly does something quite foolish: she marries Donald Whetherall. Before long, they're settled in an old house, perched high on the windy cliffs of Cornwall, where Donald dabbles in art and nonchalantly samples the local women.

But Molly is an optimist. She believes Donald’s shortcomings will all go away once his paintings begin to sell. And so she works hard to support them, donning her leather boots and corset every day to tackle a job not many women would want. One day, however, Donald announces that a fellow artist, a woman with a dubious past, will be sharing their home. Molly, sensing Donald’s interest in the woman is more than artistic, flees the conjugal nest, but finds life without her man is filled with peril. She returns to Donald's side, only to discover that he and his lover are hatching a plot to send her to another world.

Set in the 1960s and supported by a cast of eccentric neighbours, all with their own strange stories to tell, this novel blends humour, pathos, irony and suspense to create a parody of a romantic thriller.
