Beschrijving

In a world ravaged by decay and dominated by a looming, enigmatic creature known as the Company, a scavenger named Rachel navigates the remnants of a shattered society. Amidst this backdrop, she encounters Borne, a small, strange, and seemingly sentient being that she rescues from the remnants of a once-thriving city. As Rachel grapples with the realities of her harsh existence, her bond with Borne deepens, prompting her to question the essence of identity and what it truly means to be alive.

The relationship between Rachel and Borne unfolds against a surreal landscape marked by danger and intrigue. Borne evolves in unexpected ways, forcing Rachel to confront her own vulnerabilities and desires while also navigating an unpredictable environment filled with both allies and adversaries. Through their journey, themes of transformation and self-discovery come to the fore, providing an exploration of the intricacies of love and loss.

Amidst the chaos of their surroundings, the question of personhood emerges prominently. As Borne seeks to understand his nature and place in the world, the narrative delves into the philosophical implications of creation, survival, and the complexities of human emotion. The intertwining lives of Rachel and Borne illuminate the fragile boundaries that define existence, ultimately weaving a poignant tale of resilience and connection in a dystopian realm.

I didn't expect to like this one. It didn't seem like my thing. But I really loved it. I love the relationships and the horrors of the world. The author does a great job with imagery, despite so much of the world being off from what we know.
