It was to amuse you on our many long walks over the fields and by the river meadows of the country  side you love so well that I took to telling you about the Eastern stories here printed. They were very familiar stories to me, not only because I had first heard them when I was a child of your age, but also because it was to become part of the business of my life as a man to read them over and over again with a whole generation of schoolboys.
