Aurelia Garmenti killed her tormentor with the only weapon she had, her mind. Terrified of what she’d done to the governor’s nephew, Aurelia flees the domes of Pyre and seeks safety aboard the JOS, the Pyrean space station.

Against his better judgment, Captain Jessie Cinders rescues Aurelia before station security can apprehend her. He risks his mining company and his ships to hide the young empath, not fully realizing the consequences of his action.

The domes’ governor, Markos Andropov, is desperate to apprehend Aurelia and return her downside, before she can reveal his sordid secret. Aurelia lived her entire life imprisoned in the governor’s house with her sister and her mother, whom Markos kidnapped from the JOS seventeen years ago.

Markos’ crimes against the Garmenti family broke a nearly century-old agreement forbidding sensitives, such as Aurelia, from traveling or residing downside, and the governor’s actions have jeopardized the Andropov dynasty’s rule of the domes.

To complicate matters, Cinders’ exploration team uncovers a centuries-old installation on Triton, a distant moon that Pyreans had yet to set foot on.

In the ensuing struggles among the various factions of Pyre, Aurelia becomes the pawn every player wishes to possess, and Jessie must contend with keeping her safe and understanding the mysterious site his people have discovered.
