Nathan Brookes, a dedicated teacher, is haunted by the mystery of a decade-old incident when four of his students inexplicably disappeared on a hill, leaving the tight-knit community in turmoil. As the years pass, the shadow of that day looms large, particularly for Nathan, who struggles with both his own guilt and the painful loss felt by the families involved.

When one of the missing students suddenly re-emerges, Nathan is drawn back into the darkness of that day. All his uncertainties unravel, revealing a web of secrets and supernatural elements that challenge his understanding of reality. As he embarks on a quest for answers, Nathan must confront both the truth of what happened and the unforeseen consequences that come with unraveling the past.

The first half was a great horror and mystery, the second half was an exhausting slog of something that forgot it was supposed to be horror - like the author started going on a tangent about bronze era civilisation, wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff and a lot of mentions of sex (which felt incredibly awkward considering it adds nothing to the actual story). Then at the end you're catapulted back to the real world and the resolution of killing this monster it just a couple pages of not a lot happening? Real downhill in quality. Thought I liked the twist at first with the monster, but turns out it feels cheap and shallow. Didn't like the main protagonist either. He was just tiring.
