Hexenfire

"There is no reward for goodness in this world, nothing but cold steel teeth and scourging fire for all of us - and it's coming for you now!"

This is the second book of The Burning Times, a historical fantasy set during the witch trials and the Thirty Years War. Across the Holy Roman Empire, the Hexenhammers renew their attacks on witches. The gun-smith's daughter, Quality Durrand, must face death and heartbreak and make new allies. Into the world of pagans and witch-hunters new threats emerge: the rabid Night-Feasters, the mysterious angels and the growing devastation of the Wars of Religion. The fanatical preacher Hans Vollair and the Highmaster of the Teutonic Order have new allies, human and supernatural, and they are dedicated to exterminating the witches. As midwinter approaches, Quality must survive pursuit, betrayal and heartbreak and emerge stronger than ever to avenge her loved ones. Her journey takes her into the crucible of the Thirty Years War and a more mysterious conflict raging between angelic powers. Her destiny is to be the tinderspark and light a fire that will consume the Empire.
Hexenfire is the sequel to Tinderspark, which described Quality Durrand's abduction and introduction to the world of the Hexen - the pagan witches rebelling against the witch-hunters.
