Recensies

Marie Lu seamlessly presents two sides of the same coin in this YA distopian fiction; leaving you satisfied and ready for more. 4/5 ⭐I was captivated from the very beginning. The way the male lead is used is masterful. He serves as the story's hook, but, as strange as it may sound, I'd argue that he also **is** the plot.Let me explain. This is, in many ways, his story. Everything revolves around who he is, what he does, how he behaves, and where he goes. Yet that doesn't make Day the main character. Instead, he functions as a brilliantly constructed catalyst—one whose actions propel June headlong into a thrilling world of espionage, danger, and intrigue. It loses a star for a few reasons.First, this book is clearly written for a teenage audience. That doesn't mean the characters need to be driven primarily by their hormones—but that's exactly what happens, and more than once. It detracts from the stronger aspects of the story, and honestly, just doesn't make sense sometimes.Second, the characters consistently act, think, and feel more like 17- or 18-year-olds, despite the author establishing them as only 15. There's a noticeable disconnect between their maturity, the situations they find themselves in, and what feels believable for their age.

find more bookish content at Suburbia ReadsI picked Legend up out of the blue while scrolling through Overdrive one night, and since I have read one of Marie Lu’s novels ([b:Batman: Nightwalker|29749090|Batman Nightwalker (DC Icons, #2)|Marie Lu|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1500079745s/29749090.jpg|50105341]), I thought it would be a great way to pick up another novel by her. Yes, I did listen to the audio book–which, in my opinion, was pretty great. The narrator did a wonderful job, however, the story did drag a little most of the time. However, the novel has multiple perspectives–which is not surprising, to be honest. A lot of books have that these days, but for this specific novel it was interesting to see both sides of the two characters that were telling the story.Speaking of the characters, I have never read a book with characters that are the same age, so that was a slight refresher for me. I know, that is an odd little thing and age is just a number, but I just wanted to point that little detail out.On the other hand, Marie Lu’s writing is just A+ without a doubt. I am beyond obsessed with her writing even though this is the second novel of hers that I have read so far. This year, I hope to get to all of the books she has so far because I just love her style of writing so much.Choosing the audio book instead of picking it up physically during a very busy week was an excellent choice on my part because the audio book was amazing. I know I say that a lot with many other audio books that I have listened to recently, but that is just because all of the audio books that I have chosen has been amazing, especially when they have multiple narrators (like this one). Even though this one did drag a little, I still highly recommend Legend if you have not picked it up already.
