David Berringer, Minister of Defence and a popular figure, has all the qualities the Group need for their front man. As their puppet Prime Minister he could influence the people into accepting the new regime - and there are ways to make him see sense. The kidnap of his wife by her former lover is double-edged persuasion. And the young woman terrorist they select to mount guard over him is a deeply committed Group member. The scheme has to work and for most of the time it does - with appalling consequences.
