Subtitled "Notes on a Vocation"
Fanny Howe tells about her life circuitously, often circling back to her Boston childhood or to her life with her own children. Their father is black. Fanny is white--fancy Bostonian and that longing for the old country roots Irish. She blends her meandering, accessible poetry (She admires Robert Lowell.), with memoir and book notes. These are more like tales of the author than criticism.
