Hammurabi was a prominent king of Babylon, known for his significant contributions to the development of law and governance in ancient Mesopotamia. He reigned from approximately 1792 to 1750 BC and is best remembered for the Code of Hammurabi, one of the earliest and most complete written legal codes, which established standards for commercial interactions and set fines and punishments for violations. The code is inscribed on a stone stele and reflects the social order and justice of Babylonian society, emphasizing the principle of retribution and the importance of maintaining order.
