Original Review: 3 / 5 starsRereview underneath originalWhen I first started The Legend in Annatour, I was bored and was just sort of skipping through the pages not really paying attention. The characters didn't interest me that much and it was hard to keep attention on the pages. The characters were bland, and they seemed to change a lot.For instance, Character A did not want to be in Annatour and wanted to return home, and then after two chapters, she's happy to stay there because she's fallen in love with someone she barely knows. A weak trope. The plot seems rushed, compared to most manga I've read, and it's hard to keep track with the story when it's so fast-paced.However, this was quite fun to read, it was enjoyable, but it doesn't make me want to read more of the series. I would have only give it two stars if the female character hadn't been so strong willed (other than when it came to love).Re-reviewI first started The Legend in Annatour back in 2017 when I downloaded the first volume for free from the Kindle store. I had no idea what it was nor the content it held. Truthfully, I had read a lot of manga before, but 2017 was the first year I properly discovered manga and binge read a lot of it throughout the year. I was excited at the aspect of being able to read anything and everything within the manga genre but I got too excited. I compared a lot of manga to each other when they were nothing to do with each other and didn't enjoy some manga as much as I should have when I originally read them. I joined MyAnimeList earlier today and when transferring my manga shelf from GoodReads onto the site, I noticed I had a great many mangas I had left after reading only a few volumes (24 to be exact and oh boy, did my OCD start twinging). I decided to start re-reading all the mangas I had previously started in 2017 and 2018 and start completing them and Legend in Annatour was at the top of the list being only 4 volumes long.I have to say, I am very annoyed with myself for my original review of this. I didn't pay much heed to the timeline, nor did I spare much head to the characters that Orihara has created. I didn't give much attention to the whole plot and I believe I originally just read this hoping to binge through some stuff on my Kindle and get ahead on my 2017 reading challenge. The Legend in Annatour follows the story of a world that belongs in a parallel universe to ours, a place called Annatour that has been at war for a great many years now. Our heroine in our modern age picks up a book simply called The Legend of Annatour and is whisked away into their world, chosen by a prophecy seventeen years prior. I think this is a wonderful fantasy creation. The world and the plot seemed well fledged in just the first volume (although, it being a four-volume manga, I'm not so sure if they should or shouldn't be so fully fledged throughout the first volume). The characters are relatively well-rounded, even if not without their flaws; what characters are fully fledged without their flaws, however? My previous review ended up failing to see simple time stamps to allow us to know that time had passed since specific plot points and although it does still seem a little rushed, it is not as rushed as I previously believed it to be. After finishing this, it took me a moment to remember to come on here to write this review and update my MAL status that I had read the issue before delving into the second volume.I'm disappointed with myself for not giving this a better chance when I first read it two years ago and, frankly, I'm very happy that I decided to read it again now even if it was just a two-star read to clean my shelves up. This has dragged me into a wonderfully created world that, even with a war raging, I would love to step into. I do, however, think this may be more suited for a slightly younger reader. The language is quite loose and not so strict if that makes sense, but its mild gore content suggestions young adult, maybe the younger ages of the young adult genre. I do think anyone who can enjoy a relatively fledged out fantasy story can enjoy this, though! If you like fantasy, I think it's worth reading the first volume (hey, 100 odd pages to your pages read at the end of the year and an extra book in your reading challenge!)I am very happy with my decision to re-read this and I will definitely be finishing this manga off!
