Opis

Maximilien Aue was a young intellectual from a middle-class family, who was enamored of philosophical speculation, literature and music and wished to be a writer or teacher but joined the SS. On the battlefield, Aue watched the soldiers massacring Jewish women and children, heard the terrible groan from the execution by the trench and found that his pure dream of ''serving the country'' only brought him the experience of an executioner. When Berlin was occupied by the Soviet Army, Aue killed his best friend Thomas and escaped from the encirclement with the latter's certificate. After the war, he was not caught or on trial but became a businessman of laceworks and lived a quiet life. Rich in detail descriptions, the book records the life of a former SS officer in detail and starts from the inner world of an executioner for the first time to explore the mental collapse of people under slaughter through the memory and narration of a participant of collective crime.

Très dur à livre tant par la forme que le fond. Très instructif cependant et permet la lecture à travers les yeux d’un barbare
