Sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes deeply joyous, The House on Mango Street tells the story of Esperanza Cordero, whose neighborhood is one of harsh realities and harsh beauty. Esperanza doesn't want to belong--not to her rundown neighborhood, and not to the low expectations the world has for her. Esperanza's story is that of a young girl coming into her power, and inventing for herself what she will become.

But either way the writing style of this book I absolutely hate it. I literally had to force myself to sit down for the past 3 hours and read this book first of all. This book shouldn't have taken me 3 hours to f****** read but it did and it's all because of the f****** right now. I could not handle this f****** book I hated reading this book I hated sitting here having to read this book. Which only begs me to think a holy f****** s*** what the hell was high school me thinking because like high School having to read this for high school assignment probably hate this book 10 times more than I hate this book right now. Don't get me wrong I do like some of the subject matter that was covered in the book like I said I probably didn't pick up on it when I was back in high school but as an adult rereading it I definitely picked up on it love that but the same time this book was still absolutely hard for me to get by you would never read this book ever again.
I didn’t connect with the book at all. There is no plot and nothing really happening.
