Almost Alive

What once was a planet struggling to survive
is now a planet bursting to life

The humans all around me are thriving.
Gardens are growing.
Trees are reaching up to the sky.
The Undeadly clutch on the planet is slowly letting go.

And that's all lovely and everything,
but what does that mean for me
and the rest of the Dead?

In the wake of spring, the last of us desperate Undead gather,
fighting to maintain our place in a world
that no longer wants us.
Mother Nature slowly but certainly
works to purge the planet of all of us Dead,
just when I thought I was finally starting to embrace
this Second Life of mine.

I may need to do something terrible to ensure
the survival of my friends.
Something unthinkable.
Something drastic.

And it may be the very last thing I ever do.
