Opis
In the novel Crist de 200.000 braços, the Catalan writer Agustí Bartra narrates the state of four fellow prisoners at the French internment camp at Argelès-sur-Mer. Sanitary and other conditions at the camp were appalling and many internees died as a result. The novel aims to ensure the tragic episode is not forgotten and skilfully interweaves description and historic events to this end. However, Batra’s novel differs from other writings on concentration camps in that it is clearly poetic in intent. The work uses symbolism and its ideas are linked in a strongly rhetorical fashion. The balance struck between these two aspects make it an exception work.
