This is my own personal opinion, not a fact.If you plan to read this book, do not watch the movie first! I watched the movie first and absolutely loved it, but when I started the book I noticed all the differences, as it usually happens. That's not to say that the book is bad or the movie isn't any less amazing.I don't prefer one over the other, I thought they were both brilliant (though the movie has a slightly happier ending, mind you).It feels like it's two different stories that take place in the same world, like two different realities running parallel to one another. One more thing I will say: the book paints Valentine out to be more human than the movie does, so you'll probably have mixed feelings about him if you do both.When I started the book, I was thinking it was a solid three stars, but the book didn't disappoint and bumped itself up to four!
I'm the type of person who needs to read a novel before watching the film adaptation, and that is the case with this very novel. If it wasn't for the film adaptation, I'm sure I wouldn't have given a second thought in picking this novel up. Yes, Mortal Engines has pretty much everything I adore in a novel that has a futuristic vibe to the story-line, you would think I would've picked it up before there was even a film adaptation, but here we are. However, I am quite glad that I chose to read it now than earlier, because I am sure my younger self probably would've DNF'd it right in the middle of story. Knowing my love/hate relationship with these types of novels back then, it would've left a bad taste in my mouth unlike today. Me now absolutely loved everything about this novel. The suspense had me on the edge of my seat while biting my lip and slightly holding my breath once in awhile. Most of the characters made the story enjoyable and fun. I'm not too sure if I want to if I want to continue with the rest of the series since I originally read this in order to understand the film adaptation a little more (which I still need to get to), but we'll see.♡
Una historia con mucha aventura y acción, no deja un solo respiro en ninguna página. Además, la historia en este libro tiene un final cerrado, al menos bajo mi punto de vista. Sin embargo, no he conseguido empatizar del todo con los personajes. Creo que pasa un poco por encima, sin realmente profundizar en estos o en sus relaciones entre ellos.Hester Shaw, para mí, mi favorita.
