This book was just so lovely to read. I started writing a review before I finished reading it but it turned into a full on essay, so I don't think I'll post that for now, haha.Just like a lot of Japanese literature, this book really takes a mundane/ everyday experience (books and reading) and really puts it under a microscope, deep-diving into what it means to be a book lover and a book reader. As well as being a book about books and bookshops, it's also about growing as a person and dealing with grief. Rintaro's grandfather dies and very soon he is going to be uprooted from his normal reclusive life and that idea scares him. The "labyrinths" he faces and the foes he "defeats" are both a look at what being a reader means, but also reflects the struggles he is going through and his growth from them. When he defeats these people he becomes a better person until he truly has hope in his life again.As his grandfather said "books have power" and if you love books about books, and books about discovering your worth, definitely pick this up!

I was able to listen to the audiobook via Scribd. This is a fun book. It would've been a 5 star book for me if only the last chapter did not feel flat.
