Merrily Mine is a Christmas time novella filled with a spicy romance that can warm you up on the coldest of days between neighbours Emily Sullivan and Mason Elliott.Emily had a crush on Mason many years ago growing up, but he was her older brother’s best friend… but time has passed and now Mason sees her for more than who she was back then. I read this on the coldest of days we’ve had so far, but unlike the setting of Merrily Mine, I don’t get snow never mind experience the wonder of being ‘snowed in’ which just adds to heat between Emily and Mason because they’re trapped together and realising that the attraction they have for one another maybe be swift but it’s also undeniable.I’m not always one for the inst-love thing because I don’t think that it’s a plausible thing, perhaps it should be insta-lust that can develop into love over time? I don’t know but I think I found despite their chemistry, it to be a little too soon especially for Mason (no spoilers obv) to be declaring even to himself that he’s fallen in love. It’s romantic in a book certainly, but it was personally a little jarring - I think I’d have liked to see them a year on, all loved-up and saying it then rather than in the heat of the story. To be clear, I liked the story, and it’s perfect for anyone wanting a little escapism with a cowboy, with a lot of heat between the two despite the falling temperatures and to see the couple be head over heels. There’s a reason romance movies are popular especially over the Christmas season because it’s good to see a happy ever after when it’s dark and cold and Merrily Mine gives you that in spades.
