A decades-old missing-persons mystery lures corpulent Notre Dame professor Roger Knight and his semiretired P.I. brother, Philip, into a sensitive investigation involving alumni. In 1989 David, Timothy and Patrick were close buddies and rivals for a lovely St. Mary's girl. One fateful night Tim went missing. Recently the university received a box of clippings, memorabilia—and a confession from Patrick, now a priest, indicating where the body is buried.

But the corpse that the Knight siblings uncover isn't Tim's, and the mystery takes a shocking twist. The other member of the trio, struggling financial adviser David Williams, has returned to his alma matter on sensitive money matters. As the secrets that bound the three young men come to light, the Knights follow a trail where the line between right and wrong is blurred by passion, jealousy and sacred loyalties.
