Inside the walls of the Forest House, in a remote part of Britain, a circle of Druidic priestesses guards the ancient rites of learning, healing & magic against the Roman Empire.
Nearby, Eilan, born to a family steeped in the Druid's lore, is ripening toward womanhood & an inner force she hardly dares dream of. Already she hears the call of the Great Goddess & will be her new high priestess. But Eilan also hears another voice--that of her love for a young Roman tribune, Gaius Marcellius, whose mission is to subdue her native land & all its ways. Fate has placed her in a struggle to the death--for her land, her religion & her love--& only she can find her way out.
