Charles Berlitz was born in New York in 1913, the grandson of Maximilian Berlitz, founder of the Berlitz language schools. He graduated with honours from Yale University, and spoke thirty languages. He joined the family firm, but sold it in the late 1960s. He then became a noted writer on the paranormal and published a number of books including The Bermuda Triangle, The Mystery of Atlantis, Mysteries from Forgotten Worlds, Without a Trace and The Lost Ship of Noah . His best seller The Bermuda Triangle sold over 20 million copies and was translated into thirty languages. He died in 2003.
