Opis

A new story of common wisdom from the bestselling author of The Traveler’s Gift.

Orange Beach, Alabama is a simple town filled with simple people.  But like all humans on the planet, the good folks of Orange Beach have their share of problems – marriages teetering on the brink of divorce, young adults giving up on life, business people on the verge of bankruptcy, as well as the many other obstacles that life seems to dish out to the masses.

Fortunately, when things look the darkest – a mysterious man named Jones has a miraculous way of showing up.  An elderly man with white hair, of indiscriminate age and race, wearing blue jeans, a white T-shirt and leather flip flops carrying a battered old suitcase, Jones is a unique soul.  Communicating what he calls “a little perspective,” Jones explains that he has been given a gift of noticing things that others miss.  “Your time on this earth is a gift to be used wisely,” he says.  “Don’t squander your words or your thoughts. Consider even the simplest action you take, for your lives matter beyond measure…and they matter forever.”

Jones speaks to that part in everyone that is yearning to understand why things happen and what we can do about it.

Like The Traveler’s Gift, The Noticer is a unique narrative is a blend of fiction, allegory, and inspiration.  Gifted storyteller Andy Andrews helps us see how becoming a “noticer” just might change a person’s life forever.

[quote]"I notice things about situations and people that produce perspective. Remember, young man, experience is not the best teacher. Other people's experience is the best teacher."—Jones[unquote]This is a self-help book set in a fictional town, and I was given this book to read by a dear friend when I needed to find "A Little Perspective" on the situation I found myself in earlier this year, and I will be forever grateful for her ( Thanks Jan) I had no expectations, Yes I like Memes and sayings, I have even have a Pinterest board for inspirational quotes, but I am NOT a reader of Self Help books.I read the first few pages and the author did a good job at drawing me into the story, I read and digest all the words from the books I read, whether based on fact or fiction - you can get a lot of life lessons from fiction, as it is 99% always based on experiences the authors have been through or have known of. The book is written in a way that is easy to read but also engages the reader and draws them into the story and situations. The book is written at first from the Authors POV, he re-tells the first meeting he had with "Jones" who is the character who turns up when his life was at rock bottom. I read the first part of the book that day, but then life got in the way for a while, but I did take on board the messages that were written in these pages, I do not know, but it seems that at that point where I decided that I would stop focusing on the negatives and look for positives in my situation, then my life started to change! Is it coincidence or fate? To me it seems spookily to coincide with the day I went to my friends and started reading the book. If you are wanting a quick read that includes lessons on how to take a new perspective on the things that most of us deal with daily. I have written down a fair few quotes from this book, one being "No matter your age, physical condition, financial situation, color, gender, emotional state, or belief… everything you do, every move you make, matters to all of us—and forever Time is precious and you have much to do".This to me sounded like good advice, who is to say at the age of 50 that I should sit on a park bench and watch the daisies grow, NO I will forge ahead and see what new adventures are awaiting me. You quickly get the impression that there is something more ethereal about Just"Jones, Not Mr Jones, Just 'Jones' and to me he seemed to be a wise guardian angel who moved from place to place giving a lesson in perspective as he travelled. I liked how the author has conveyed his message through the character Jones, he has a good outlook on how to face problems and find solutions. "In desperate times, much more than anything else, folks need perspective." and he was right. But I do not feel that the story is a typical Non Fiction book, it feels to have a more of a Fictional vibe, especially when the author begins to describe 'Jones' as a chameleon type character, that appears Caucasian to the white folks, black or Asian etc... and for me this for me was unnecessary I find in my experience it doesn't matter what race or gender you are, if you have a wise demeanor about you, people tend to listen to what you have to say. I am a brit living in New Zealand, and I find that those that have lived longer than yourself, usually have a wise word or two under their belts, whatever ethnicity they are. I am quite wary of the slew of self help books out there, but I do love a good short message of wisdom that may prompt a person to come up with a different perspective to a problem they are having - there I go again - that word PERSPECTIVE... BUT Its true, I did get one and I am happy I read this book, will I become an avid reader of this type of book - probably not, I picked up "The Secret" at the Lions Book Sale and stood and read a few pages - that book did not hook me, so I put it down and bought myself a Paranormal series instead, you see I find wise words and quotes in most of the books I read, so I do not need to read the popular guru style self help type books. What if, by making a small change in your perspective, you could make a big change in your happiness? - well it worked for me, I try and remember this when things start to go down a different path than I intended. Funnily enough, Since I read this book a few months ago and I had started this review, saved it as draft on my blog and then moved over 1538 km! I thought I was set to walk another path, and now I find it has changed again, but rather than get upset, I just looked for the positive in the change. So for me this was a good book to pick up and read, it may be for you, it may not, but you won't know if you don't give it a go.
