📔3.3 stars🗡️After rating the first book a 5-star, I thought this one would be even better, but unfortunately, I was a little disappointed.🫰I actually really enjoyed reading about Torell and Zuleeka because they were really interesting characters. Additionally, Jaren's family dynamic was heartwarming (most of the time) and enjoyable to read about.👍Other side characters, including but not limited to: Mirryn or Queen Ariana or Naari or Tipp or Caldon or Rhess, were still all interesting (though not always "good"). [Special shoutout to Mirryn and Caldon and Flox because they were some of my favourites.]👎Romance was good until it started to get repetitive. Jaren repeatedly pours his heart out to Kiva, who obviously reciprocates his feelings, but still pushes herself away and betrays him. Which was fine until it started to happen again and again -- at one point, I was wondering if Kiva really deserved Jaren.👎Twists felt a little forced and very underwhelming -- there were minor twists that I didn't really care about, but no big twists unlike the first book.👎Very repetitive -- Kiva sneaks out, gets caught, her actions are justified, everyone forgives her, then the cycle repeats.👎Unrealistic -- after Kiva is repeatedly suspected on multiple occasions, no one finds her suspicious regardless.👎After Kiva "chooses", she still actively betrays both sides and doesn't own up and tell the truth to either side.
Omg I loved this book the plotwist was just incredible and I'm soo ready to read the next book
