A for Andromeda

A for Andromeda is a tv scifi serial 1st made & broadcast by the BBC in seven parts in 1961. Written by cosmologist Fred Hoyle with author & tv producer John Elliot, it concerns a group of scientists who detect radio signals from a distant galaxy containing computer design instructions. Constructed, it gives instructions for the creation of a living organism, Andromeda. One of its creators, John Fleming, fears its purpose is to subjugate humanity.
The show provided the 1st major role for Julie Christie. One episode & a few extracts survive. A for Andromeda has been remade twice: 1st by Italian station RAI in 1972 & by the BBC in 2006. A sequel was made by the BBC in 1962, The Andromeda Breakthrough.
