Rescued from a late night hit-and-run by a kind-hearted Mr Jones, Mortimer the raven quickly becomes a rather unusual family pet, with a VERY large appetite. Though Mrs Jones has misgivings, particularly after Mortimer's night-time activities in the fridge, daughter Arabel falls in love at first sight. But when Mortimer vanishes along with a priceless diamond brooch and a criminal squirrel, poor Arabel fears he may have bitten off more than he can chew...
