Avedons Kennedys

John F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy are one of the most celebrated and beloved couple in American history, and with their two children, they came as close to a Royal Family as America has had since George and Martha Washington. Richard Avedon is America's most celebrated photographer since Anselm Adams, his work recently recognized by an exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In the early 1960s Avedon was commissioned by Harpers Bazaar to photograph the Kennedy family, He shot some 220 photographs, of which only 6 were published. He gave the photographs, along with many others, to the Smithsonian Institute in 1965, where they have remained - buried in their archives - ever since. Now, in October 2003, one month before the 40th anniversary of John F. Kennedy's tragic death, these wonderful photographs are being published--200 of them for the very first time. This is a remarkable set of photographs, by a truly remarkable photographer, of a truly remarkable family - and this really is a publishing event.
