In the caves deep below the house, once a year the Family gather to perform a Ritual that sustains their power. Each year a terrible price of blood is made to appease the god Faroust.

Eliza MacTir is the youngest daughter of a powerful Irish family. Born into fae gentry, she has always been an outcast, for she is bereft of the magical gifts that have coursed through the veins of the Family for several millennia. Desperate for escape, Eliza flees from her home in rural Ireland only to be hunted and dragged back by Cornelius, the Family's head of security. To save her life, Eliza uses the only gift she feels she has: manipulation.

With her sexual awakening she is drawn into the world of magic, gods, and the Veil, and the only way to free not only herself, but those she loves, is to break their hearts and harden her own.
