Rereading this masterpiece for the eighth time. Still feels as good as the very first time. GRR Martin has gold in his mind and I am thankful that he shared it with us, humble readers.

NOW THE ACCLAIMED HBO SERIESGAME OF THRONES—THE MASTERPIECE THAT BECAME A CULTURAL PHENOMENON

Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King’s Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert’s name. There his family dwells in peace and comfort: his proud wife, Catelyn; his sons Robb, Brandon, and Rickon; his daughters Sansa and Arya; and his bastard son, Jon Snow. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse—unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season.

Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances. Now Robert is riding north to Winterfell, bringing his queen, the lovely but cold Cersei, his son, the cruel, vainglorious Prince Joffrey, and the queen’s brothers Jaime and Tyrion of the powerful and wealthy House Lannister—the first a swordsman without equal, the second a dwarf whose stunted stature belies a brilliant mind. All are heading for Winterfell and a fateful encounter that will change the course of kingdoms.

Meanwhile, across the Narrow Sea, Prince Viserys, heir of the fallen House Targaryen, which once ruled all of Westeros, schemes to reclaim the throne with an army of barbarian Dothraki—whose loyalty he will purchase in the only coin left to hi...

There were too many character POVS and internal monologues for me

The first book of the saga The Chronicles of Ice and Fire, presents us with a more than the complex world and captivating characters, being those good, bad, or something in between. I started this reading with high expectations and was not disappointed.  Even though it's a little hard to remember all the characters and all the locations, it's a very worthwhile read. It's amazing to see how the author worked everything down to the smallest detail and it's very encouraging to know that everything connects throughout the books. I love it when the author/author is in no hurry to deliver all the secrets of history and the created world. There was a lot of interesting stuff in this book, but all the cultural immersion and growth of Daenerys in Khal Drogo's tribe was one of the best parts for me, I enjoyed how the author developed the character. The Eddard Stark parts were also great, in my opinion. All the political issues and his investigation were, of course, one of the high points of history. I'm currently on book two, and the plot just keeps getting better. This saga is certainly a classic of today and deserves all the "hype" it has and more.

4.7 Me ha encantado el libro, tanto por los personajes como por la historia, aunque pienso que es introductorio a los demas libros de la saga, pero en mi opinion, es uno de los mejores libros que he leido.

Of course the book is better than the show. I feel like I now have some clarity to some things I had questions about.
